Ferris Sports Update 2.7.24

Welcome back to Ferris Sports Update! Our host this week is Brody Keiser and our first guest is Kurt Westendorp, Head Coach of the women’s basketball coach. This week they discuss the highlights of the games against Northern Michigan University and Michigan Tech. Next, Brody is joined by Jack Ammerman, a player on the men’s basketball team. Brody and Jack review the games against Northern Michigan University and Michigan Tech. The last guest on this week’s Ferris Sports Update is the hockey team’s Head Coach, Bob Daniels. Brody and Bob talk about the highs and lows of the games against Bowling Green State.

Women’s Basketball

Today’s host Brody Keiser is joined by Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Kurt Westendorp. The game on February 1 against Northern Michigan was tough, as we were down at half time, but they were able to pull back the win. They started strong and finished strong.

The next game against Michigan Tech on February 3 showed that both teams were able to make buckets, and play a good ball game, but the Bulldogs prevailed. Coming off an astonishing nine game win streak, Coach Westendorp believes they just need to continue this momentum, especially with their upcoming game where they’re traveling back over the bridge to play Lake Superior State.

Men’s Basketball

Host Brody Keiser chats with Jack Ammerman, the senior guard from the men’s basketball team. The team had a bit of a tough game against Northern Michigan on Thursday, they lost by just 3 points. But hey, they didn’t let that bring them down!

They came back on Saturday with a huge win against Michigan Tech, crushing it by 16 points. Talk about a comeback! Let’s hear it for Jack Ammerman, truly stepping up as a leader, keeping spirits high, and helping the team shake off that Thursday loss. It’s never easy to bounce back from a defeat, but Ammerman’s got that positive vibe, and he’s proud of how the team pulled together and showed what they’re made of in the game against Michigan Tech. They turned that tough loss into a teachable moment and came out stronger. That’s the spirit of basketball right there!

Next week, the men’s basketball team travels upstate to play against Lake Superior State.

Hockey

Finally, our guest host Brody Keiser is joined by hockey Head Coach Bob Daniels. Ferris played two games against Bowling Green this weekend and unfortunately lost both.

Ferris played at home on Friday and started strong against Bowling Green with a two-point lead at first intermission. The first goal was scored by Luigi Benincasa with assistance from Jason Brancheau. Great teamwork! The second goal was scored by Zach Faremouth and this goal was his first of three this weekend. The second period ended with Ferris up 3-1, but sadly, Bowling Green came back in the third period, scoring three more goals against Ferris. Bowling Green won 4-3 and left our team disheartened but encouraged to bring it even stronger on Saturday.

Saturday’s game was also on our home court. Bowling Green took the lead with two goals in the first period even after a challenged goal by Daniels. Ferris scored once in the second half, but unfortunately, Bowling Green took the win 3-1. Although they lost, Daniels was much more pleased with the gameplay on Saturday compared to Friday.

This weekend the boys get a break and will be working hard in practice to come back next weekend and play against Bemidji. These losses won’t get our team down!

Thanks for reading and tune in next week for another episode of Ferris Sports Update!
