Media Supply

What is Media Supply?

Media Supply is the equipment rental house for Ferris students to use for course projects. It supplies video cameras, audio, grip, and electric equipment based on the course students are taking. For example, in Field Production, students have access to Sony cameras, tripods, microphones, and Aputure lighting kits. There are also some additional pieces of gear students may check out that are not course-specific.

1. Students are only allowed to borrow equipment for classes they are currently enrolled in.

2. Departmental equipment and software may only be used for assigned projects.

3. Access to labs and equipment is a privilege, not a right. Please act responsibly and in a manner that respects fellow students. Report any damages/deficits immediately to Media Supplly and/or the program engineer, Bill Jung.

4. Students are responsible for making sure that all components of the items that they are checking out are present and in working condition. Most “kits” include a list and a picture of the items included.

5. Equipment (including keys) may be checked out during Media Supply’s usual business hours for a period of 4 hours at a time.

6. All items borrowed overnight (after 1 pm the previous day) must be brought back by 9 am the following day. Equipment checked out after 1 pm on Friday will be due back Monday morning by 9 am.

7. All equipment under students’ care must be kept at acceptable temperatures. Equipment kept in cars overnight is unacceptable. Returning hot or cold equipment will result in being put on the banned list. This includes cameras, tripods, lighting, etc.

8. Only Media Supply employees are allowed to reserve equipment for students and enter student information in the check-out software.

9. Lost or damaged equipment will be charged to the student’s account.

10. KEY RENTAL (Studio Only) Students who check out a key overnight or over the weekend are held accountable for the key. Students who check out a key overnight or over the weekend must also be available to let other students into the studio who are enrolled in one of these classes: Television Studio (TDMP385), Television Operations (TDMP359), or Advance Directing and Producing (TDMP499). Phone calls are not acceptable for reserving keys.
