Football

First up, we are joined by Tesfa Smith, the assistant coach for the Ferris State football team, as it was signing day this week. Ferris State signed 37 students from multiple states, with 25 of the future students coming from Michigan and 11 students from Florida. As the Bulldogs continue to prep for another season, this new year of students are looking bright.

Women’s Basketball

Next, Rob welcomed guest Kurt Westendorp, head coach of the Ferris State women’s basketball team. Coming off an unusually quiescent week, where the team got an opportunity to get some well-earned rejuvenation, the Lady Bulldogs sprung into action against the Lake Superior State University Lakers over the weekend. With this win on the road (95-54), The Bulldog women’s basketball squad moved up to #4 nationally this week in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Top 25 poll. With Mallory McCartney being injured during the game, the guys discuss the strength of the bench, and how it’s great to see some of the talented players who may not get as many minutes on the court come out and shine.

The women’s team will host the next 6 games here at home in Wink Arena, hosting Saginaw Valley on Thursday, and Wayne State on Saturday. The Saturday game is part of the GLIAC’s, Play4Kay initiative to help raise awareness and support for all cancers affecting women. Men’s Basketball

To close out the show, Rob was joined by men’s basketball assistant coach, Josh Fleming. This week the bulldogs had just one game against Lake Superior State up in the U.P. The Bulldogs had a little bit of a slow start this game but eventually got in a groove. Fleming stated that the Lakers are a pretty tough opponent and “will make you pay for your mistakes.” The Bulldogs put up a tough fight but unfortunately took a loss against the Lakers. This weekend the bulldogs once again take on Saginaw Valley and Wayne State. With only six games left of the regular season, they can’t dwell on any losses and have to be locked in in these games leading up to the conference. Come see your bulldogs play at Wink Arena this Thursday at 7:30 pm and Saturday at 3:00 pm.
