Ferris Sports Update 10.4.23

On this episode of Ferris Sports Update, host Rob Bentley opens up with football Defensive Coordinator Ryan Hodges. They discuss the team’s recent homecoming win over Northern Michigan 78-3. Bentley also talks with Hockey Head Coach Bob Daniels about the upcoming season header against Miami (Ohio) this Saturday. Lastly, Bentley talks with Volleyball Head Coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm about the team’s three victories over the weekend against Northern Michigan, Michigan Tech, and Lake Superior State.

Homecoming Victory!

Over the past weekend, Ferris State had its homecoming game against Northern Michigan University. The weather was beautiful, hosting a festive atmosphere. Students and alumni came together to cheer on the Ferris State Bulldogs. The Bulldogs ended the night with a 73-3 victory, a perfect conclusion to the homecoming celebration.

On Ferris Sports Update, Coach Ryan Hodges joins Host Rob Bentley to discuss the performance of the homecoming game. The Bulldogs started strong scoring a record number of points in the first quarter and giving up less than 100 yards the whole game. The defense slipped up a little and let one touchdown pass, but the team stayed strong the rest of the first half going into halftime with a score of 55-3. In the second half, a few freshmen were given the chance to play. Coach Hodges expressed his excitement at the new rule that allows freshmen to play three games without counting it against them because it gives them some real experience with the game. This helps them build depth and play better in the future.

Despite the amazing victory, the Bulldogs can’t rest. They will continue to grind in preparation for the game against Saginaw Valley this weekend and the upcoming rivalry game against Grand Valley. Coach Hodges expects that the Bulldogs will continue to do great things and hopefully make it to the playoffs again this year.

Hockey

Hockey Head Coach, Bob Daniels, joins the show this week to discuss the upcoming 2023 Ferris State hockey season. The Bulldogs will be hitting the ice here at home this weekend, facing off against the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks traveling from Miami, Ohio. Derek Lalonde, current Detroit Redwing’s Head Coach, and former Bulldog’s assistant coach, returned to campus to announce the 2023 team captains. Coach Daniels goes on to expand upon the confidence in the team’s leadership and defending home ice.
