Content 2Big Rapids Public Schools Superintendent, Tom Langdon, introduces Marty Aldrich, Program Coordinator and Deb Tyson, Human Resources and Curriculum Coordinator of Eastwood Early Childhood Center.

Eastwood recently changed from a grade school to an early childhood center in the past, attracting media and following many community meetings. Now, Marty Aldrich and Deb Tyson are part of a new renovation for the Eastwood Early Childhood Center.

The school holds a new program and a new look within its walls and there are two resource rooms for special education students. There is also a program called Breakthrough to Literacy that works very well as a reading program.

If any parent would like to become involved, they may volunteer as a member of Parent-Teacher Involvement (PTO). This is a great chance to go above and beyond by organizing fundraisers and holding meetings over finances.

Making the Grade is produced, directed, designed and distributed by students in the Television and Digital Media Production Program (TDMP).

Nick Scheible the Finance Director, and Kathy Bouwman Board Member President discuss issues on budgeting and monitoring the budget process with the challenges of 165 dollar cut on the MOISD Districts. Ways to fix the budget so it will not increasingly get worse in these challenging times. Cuts made prior to this year. Want the community to have a better understanding and understand the Board Members are doing the best they can. Ways to help the budget process is important for children to be present on count day.

Not easy to make cuts; in return have to be creative in raising money and distribution to where the money will go. The problem faced with budgeting money is that the government is telling how to spend the money. If you do not follow the orders the school district will lose the grant. Future cuts could be 200-600 dollar cuts; approximately an example 500 dollar cut could mean 1 million dollars for a small school district. Parents need to be better informed. Everyone needs to get involved and help our future students.
