Host Angela Roman, Coordinator of Career Services, explains how students can improve their networking skills, assisted by Jeremy Mishler, Luke Wolf, and Michael Wade. Each guest passes down vital tips and tricks to getting the desired career through social, professional, and personal networking.
Mishler, Coordinator of Alumni Relations, helps connect current Ferris students with alumni. However, he also helps organize events for alumni to get together, allowing new graduates to meet with individuals who may be retiring. More information can be found on ferrisalumni.org.
Wolf, First Counselor of Sigma Pi, suggests joining a minimum of two Registered Student Organizations (RSOs). Choose one professional and one social RSO, as this will allow you to create relationships with others involved in the same area of interest.
Wade, Assistant Director of Multicultural Student Services, agrees that all students should do what they can to set themselves apart in the professional and social world. Wade introduces a new program called the TOWERS program (Teaching Others What Establishes Success). He also talks about a student led bus tour, where students speak for Ferris and recruit new students. If interested, you can come out and observe their work in Suite 159, located in FLITE.
Angela Roman lastly discusses the top ten ways to network for your next job. Aside from these ten tips, there are some simple things you can work on: timing, ask employers questions, get information, use eye contact, shake hands, establish an easing dialogue, and get to know the employer as a person.
More information can be found on ferris.edu/careerservices/ or under Student Services on the homepage.

Nicolas Campau host of Student Life brings John Randle, student employment manager, Carrie Rodgers, resident Life hall director, and Public safety Tim Jacobs, detective sergeant to talk about student employment.
Ferris State hires numerous students for many different job opportunities on campus giving a great learning experience in the work force as well as making some cash to pay for college.  Students also have opportunities for advancement and pay raises.  Working on campus has benefited Ferris as well as the Students both financially as well as with leadership skills.
Another good option is a work study.  A work study is a Federal financial grant to get paid for working a job on campus.  Employers like this because they don’t have to pay for your work, but you will still receive payment as usual.
To apply for on campus jobs go to www.ferris.edu  and click the employment link at the bottom, print out the job application, fill it out and turn it in to the proper employment office.
